Geomancers are very strange and terrifying illagers that only spawn in the deepslate layer of the caves. They summon magical pillars to trap and explode you, which can be quite a dangerous combo.

They drop amethyst shards and amethyst dust.

They also drop the “Crystalline” armor trim 1/8th of the time if the armor trim addon is installed.

Look at those tattered clothes and ratty beard… he’s been down in the caves a while.

History

1.5.0*
  • All TCC mobs now have new, smoother animations
  • This took eons to do, and relies on the new 1.21.4 composite model system
  • Enchanters and Iceologers also have capes due to this change
1.3.0*

Iceologers and geomancers should have a harder time seeing you through walls now

1.1.1*

Updated geomancer pillars to using /damage, causing the following changes:

  • You can now block geomancer pillar explosions with a shield
  • Geomancers will now attack villagers, iron golems, and any mobs that happen to attack them
  • Mobs hit accidentally by geomancer pillarsa will now attack said geomancer
  • Blast protection protects you from geomancer pillars
1.1.0Beta 4*

Geomancers no longer drop echo shards when killed nearby sculk catalysts

  • This feature encouraged abusing buggy geomancer spawning behavior to farm them
  • Has been completely replaced with the new echo shard renewability method from sculk shriekers

Geomancers no longer drop budding amethyst

  • This also encouraged abusing spawning behavior, and discouraged exploring to find a geode instead of simply killing geomancers to get a homemade one

Now drop:

  • 5-10 amethyst shards
  • 1 amethyst dust (more with looting)
  • 5-7 raw copper, raw iron, or raw gold
  • These loot changes should give you more of a reason to fight them rather than running away, as amethyst dust is much less valuable now

Geomancers’ spawning has been optimized

The explosive geomancer pillar’s texture has been updated

Beta 4-

Geomancers no longer drop budding amethyst

  • This also encouraged abusing spawning behavior, and discouraged exploring to find a geode instead of simply killing geomancers to get a homemade one

Geomancers no longer drop echo shards when killed nearby sculk catalysts

  • This feature encouraged abusing buggy geomancer spawning behavior to farm them
  • Has been completely replaced with the new echo shard renewability method from sculk shriekers
Beta 3*

The geomancer pillar textures have been updated

Beta 3*

Geomancers and iceologers can no longer see through glass, doors, or similar transparent blocks

Beta 1+

Echo shards now drop from geomancers killed nearby a sculk catalyst, instead of their usual amethyst shard drop, making echo shards renewable

Geomancers drop budding amethyst 2.5% of the time

Beta 1-

Geomancers no longer drop deepslate

1.0.1*

Geomancer pillars now flash before exploding

Amethyst dust now drops 100% of the time from geomancers in stacks of 1-2, and is affected by looting

0.5.1Beta 1*

Can no longer spawn in clusters

Killing one clears any mining fatigue you may have

Their damage has been increased, but it no longer ignores armor

0.5.0Beta 9*

Made it so viewing illager entities in spectator mode looks somewhat proper, rather than a broken z-fighting mess

Iceologer and geomancer attacks now benefit from the strength effect

Beta 8*

The geomancer is now a force to be reckoned with. He’s no longer a wimpy old man that cowers in fear and struggles to cast spells.

His explosive pillar radius has been buffed to 7 blocks up from 5

He will now ALWAYS summon explosive pillars if you’re too close

After casting any pillar spell, he will chase after you

The explosive pillar summoning algorithm has been generally improved, so pillars can spawn in the tightest of caves

If the both the explosion and trap spells don’t fit the space, he will resort to giving you mining fatigue for two minutes to prevent your escape

He can now see through his own trap pillars, meaning that he can summon explosive pillars on you even when he’s surrounded you with normal deepslate pillars

Beta 7*

Changed the normal pillars to use proper deepslate textures

Tweaked the timer on explosive pillars

Generally improved the geomancer’s model and texture

Now has a spawn cap of 10 per world

Will now only spawn at the proper height if the world is using an extended height datapack

Beta 5+

Replace all witches below y=40

Attack using different kinds of pillars, which can either entrap you in deepslate or explode you

Drops amethyst dust, deepslate, amethyst shards, and rarely a pristine amethyst gemstone

Comes with a spawn egg that is obtainable via peculiar berries
