Rings were items that gave various buffs when held in your offhand.

They were made using amethyst dust, gemstones, etc. in the jewelery table.

They were removed and replaced with many other better-designed features.

History

1.1.0Beta 4X

Yes, you read that right, rings are getting removed.

They simply did not fit well with the rest of both vanilla and TCC’s content, and there are many many reasons behind this decision I will not go into here. What matters is the replacements to rings:

  • Diamond rings (which increased health) have been replaced by fortitude potions
  • Ender pearl rings (which acted as item magnets) have been replaced by the tangling pearl
  • Amethyst rings (which made items glow on your death) have been replaced by the recovery compass rework
  • All other rings have been removed entirely with no replacement
    • Quartz (attack damage)
      • Boring, simple stat boost upgrade, invalidated strength potions
    • Prismarine crystal (attack speed)
      • Boring, simple stat boost upgrade
    • Emerald (increased saturation from foods)
      • Way overpowered
    • Lapis (increased experience from mobs)
      • Way overpowered
    • Echo shard (healing from mob kills)
      • Underpowered for an echo shard
      • Still considering a replacement for this ring variant
Beta 3*

Ring durabilities have been increased

  • Gold: 50 durability to 100 durability
  • Iron: 100 durability to 250 durability
  • Netherite: 175 durability to 550 durability

Ring amethyst dust costs have been decreased

  • Iron: 3 dust to 2 dust
  • Netherite: 5 dust to 3 dust
Beta 2+

A new ring type, created by putting an echo shard in a jewelry table

When you kill a mob while wearing this ring, said mob will drop no experience, and instead heal you

  • This effect does not go into effect if you are at full health

If the ring is iron or gold, you are healed for half a heart per kill

If the ring is netherite, you are healed for a full heart per kill

Beta 1*

Diamond rings now give +2 and +4 hearts, rather than +1 and +2

  • Hopefully this brings them more in line with the other rings!
1.0.0Release*

Emerald rings now give bonus saturation when eating food, instead of bonus loot when killing mobs

Netherite rings now give knockback resistance when in your offhand, similarly to other netherite items

  • The obsidian gemstone has been removed due to this change
Release-

Gemstone Items

  • These were the gemstones you created by putting gems into stonecutters. They simply served no purpose aside from being another annoying step in crafting.
  • Replaced with using gems directly in the jewelry table

Base Ring Items

  • Don’t worry, I’m not talking about rings themselves. Just the rings without gemstones on them. Again, they served no purpose aside from annoyance.
  • Replaced with using ingots directly in the jewelry table

Pristine Rings

  • These were a bit annoying to make, requiring 20 amethyst dust. Additionally, once you had the 20 amethyst dust in the table, you couldn’t not make a pristine ring and use all 20 dust. Very irritating.
  • Replaced with netherite rings giving the double boost to ring attributes

Potion-soaked rings

  • These were very annoying to deal with when carrying around a ring in your offhand for the attribute. You would sometimes accidentally activate them, causing you to waste valuable potion durability.
  • Replaced with the much more organic and sensible diluted potions
